5 Must Haves For A Day Full of Outdoor Adventure

by | Apr 15, 2018 | Outdoor Adventure

We all harbor memories from our childhood days or in the fresh freedom of young adulthood of venturing out for a day of fun and returning home with scrapes, itches, and sunburns more intense than we could have ever imagined. It is always better to be prepared than to be in search of necessities when out for the day. When adventuring with your family, it is imperative to have all the goods you need for optimum fun and no discomfort. Double check your bags for these five items before embarking on your next outdoor adventure.

First Aid
Sometimes on a hike, that tree branch will come out of nowhere and cause some gnarly cuts on your arm. Or perhaps you’re sightseeing and trip over your own two feet. Either way, accidents happen and you should always be prepared. This doesn’t need to be as extensive as the kits that are stashed in your bathroom or under your car seat, but a sachet of essentials to keep itch and infections away should be kept in your day bag. Toss items such as individual wipe packets, antibacterial cream, a multifunction tool (knife, tweezers and pliers) and a handful of bandaids to mend injuries temporarily.

Electrolytes Equal Energy
Hydration is key in any element. If you’re going for a stroll in the park or taking on the neighborhood in a kickball game, hydration is factor you always want to stay ahead of. Often times coaches and health advocates will say, “if you’re thirsty, it’s too late”. Making sure you are getting water in addition to fluids with electrolytes is imperative for your health and also body recovery the following day.

Salty Or Sweet – Both Are A Treat
Indulging in snack carts and local restaurants are the best part for road trips and adventures. When you’re escaping the hustle and bustle of the city life, make sure you bring the conveniences of modern food with you. Stash one snack per person for every 2-3 hours and a few extra for good measures. Opt for things that are real, whole foods like fruits, nuts or jerky. These will process quickest in your system and provide your body with lightweight carbohydrates and quick energy to keep your adventure going.

Portable Protection
Portable shade or warmth can turn the day around. Beanies and hats in cooler temperatures can keep you comfortable and prevent your ears from going numb. In the summertime, hats and sunglasses are going to make the day cooler – literally. Having the sun rays beat down into your eyes can make you feel tired faster. Keeping the heat off your face will also be better in the future in terms of skin health and vision. A summer tip: if you’re by the water, dunk your hat in the stream and wring it out for an instant cooling in the warm temperatures.

Sunscreen
Slather on the protectant before you hit the trail and pack a second easy applicable one for a two-hour touch up. Dozens of brands offer spray versions of their best selling sun shields to make keeping sunburns away easier than getting them. There are also powdered versions formulated for the face that would be a happy addition. Even in the winter months, the rays from the sun can cause burns. If the sun is shining, you should be protected.

Enjoyable company, prime locations, and unforgettable experiences are all souvenirs of a day well spent. Make sure your adventure day is uninterrupted by being ready for the little bumps along the way.
