5 Ways to Increase Productivity at Work

by | Jul 5, 2017 | Leadership

People who get everything checked off their to-do list in one day aren’t super-humans. They’ve just mastered the best ways to increase their productivity, and they continue to work on improving these habits every day. And you can too. Get yourself one step closer to your long-term goals by practicing short-term habits that will increase your productivity at work.

Productivity is best achieved through the combination of focused efforts and proactive decisions, so read these 5 ways to increase productivity at work to make sure you’re making the right decisions throughout the work day to optimize productivity.

Implement distraction-free times

It’s hard, if not impossible, to get work done if you’re constantly checking up on your Facebook notifications or refreshing your newsfeed. Avoid getting sucked into distractions throughout the work day by implementing distraction-free times and working in increments instead. Try working for 90 minutes and then taking a 10-minute break. Your 10-minute break will rejuvenate you before you jump into your next 90-minute block, and you’ll be surprised by how much work you get accomplished throughout the workday.

Focus on small actions instead of big time issues

It’s so easy to look at your to-do list as one giant task, but how daunting does that seem? Instead, make an intentional effort to divide your to-do list into smaller actions and delegate them according to priority. You’ll end up getting the important things done faster, and you’ll feel more accomplished at the end of the day.

Complete easy tasks right away

Don’t put super simple tasks on your to-do list. If it takes two minutes or less, complete it right away. In doing so, you’ll knock out all of your easy tasks immediately before they even make it to your to-do list, and you won’t be left with a million little things to do at the end of your workday.

Step away from the computer

This one may seem counterproductive to increasing your productivity, but it’s important to give your eyes and your brain a break from the computer. So go for a short walk around the office. Sit outside for ten minutes. Chat with a coworker in the breakroom. By stepping away from your computer, you’ll give your body the break it needs to continue your productive habits when you return to your desk.

Remind yourself of your goals every day

Even when you don’t feel like your most productive self, remind yourself why you show up to work each day. Keep your long-term goals and dreams in the back of your head as you work. It will become easier to make intentional decisions and focused efforts if you remind yourself of the reason behind them.

Follow these five tips every workday and you’ll be getting more done in no time.
